The work included the investigation of the effect of mineral nitrogen fertilizers (30, 60, 90 kg/ha) and nitrogen fixing bacteria (Azotobacter chroococcum) on the yield of three maize hybrids and on the microbiological activity in rhizosphere soil. The experiments were carried out in hydromorphic black soil. Nitrogen fertilization was applied during ploughing, whereas seed inoculation was done before seeding. With all variants yield was greater than with control. The yield of maize in inoculated variants was equal to the yield in variants with mineral fertilizers. Microbiological activity increased in inoculated variants.
