Problem of water supplying in Serbia is mostly based on abstraction of ground water. Most important reserves of ground water are accumulated in alluvial sand-with-gravel deposits of large rivers as well as in Karst regions. Deficiency of appropriate treatment and insufficient level of exploration led to decrease of groundwater quality, especially in industrial and highly populated regions. Existence of significant reserves of high quality ground waters, with good conditions of protection, especially in low-populated regions and the need of preserving the quality of active ground water sources in large river valleys, iMposes the necessity of expertise and planned approach in management of this strategic resource.
