A survey of literature data referred to the study of the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, causal agent of olive anthracnose: history and nomenclature of the fungus, place in the classification of fungi, hosts, distribution and economical importance, as well as research work on the olive pathogen in the world and in our country, is presented in this paper.
