Environmentally beneficial forest plantation development in Sub-Saharan Africa with special reference to Ghana.
1999
Asibey, E. O. A. | Siaw, D. E. K. A.
The paper recognizes the need to increase forest plantation development in Sub-Saharan Africa despite the fact that many of the existing forest plantations have not improved existing landscapes and vegetation. It goes on to indicate that their design, location, species composition and management can be adjusted to make their effects on the environment beneficial. It also indicates that plantation development could be a vital tool for the much talked-about biodiversity conservation and the need for poverty alleviation in the region, particularly with regard to food security, non-farm income and off farm employment.
