Study on usefulness of tamarind seed, kosambi seed and palm pith meal as energy resources of concentrate ration on growth of Bali heifer

The experiment was conducted to study the usefulness of tamarind seed, kosambi seed and palm pith meal as energy resources of concentrate ration on Bali heifer growth. Twelve Bali heifer two years of age with average body weight 182.6 approx 6 kg were used in this experiment. The feed consisted of elephant grass (RG) and concentrate. The four treatment applied were (RA) RG + concentrate A, without tamarind seed, kosambi seed and palm pith meal, (RB) RG + concentrate B containing 45 percent tamarind seed of total concentrate, (RC) RG + concentrate C containing 45 percent kosambi seed of total concentarte, and (RD) RG + concentrate D containing 45 percent palm pith meal of total concentrate. Parameter measured were daily gain, nutrients intake and digestibility. The experiment used randomized block design with four treatments and three replicates. The result of the experiment showed that nutrients intake was not influenced by the treatment but daily gain and nutrients digestibility of treatment containing tamarind seed were significantly (P0.05) higher, while the treatment containing kosambi seed was significantly (P0.05) lower than the other treatments. It was concluded that of the three local feed as energy resource, only tamarind seed provide the best heifer Bali growth, while the amount of kosambi seed should be noticed in order to maintain fat content ration does not exceed 5 percent
