Population of Maros Sintetic-1 was intercrossed between 12 inbred lines (S4 and S5) which tolerance under acid sulphate soil. Population to be improved was subjected to under low nitrogen to find yield 5,0 t/ha. Evaluation of 210 S1 families of Maros Sintetic-1 has been conducted in Bajeng on 2000/2001 to obtain selected superior family with intensity selection 10 percent. Two environment evaluated was (1) deficiency of N, Urea 50 kg/ha, and (2) normal N, Urea 300 kg/ha. The method used was Alfa Lattice design with two replications (14 x 15), plot size 4.0 m, spacing 75 x 20 cm and basal fertilizer was 200-100 of SP36 and KCl, control lines were Lamuru and Barambai composite (S1)Cl. The result showed that yield of 20 superior families S1 in normal N (Urea 300 kg/ha) is 4,613-6,094 kg/ha, and in under low N (Urea 50 kg/ha) is 1,934-4,747 kg/ha. Family S1 (Maros Sintetic-1, 9, 86, 26, 124, 163, 100, and 110) is the best families to improve genetic variability in the next cycle (C1) as parental of OPV variety with value of yield-ratio 0.70. The plant aspect, husk cover and ear is (1.0-2.0) and ASI 4.0 days. The score of selected families is 2-4 (resistance) to leaf blight (Helminthosporium spp.) and population 4.7 under normal N condition
