The seed and planting material which is basic to produce and products has not been dealt with the desired seriousness. It is time to look into this with utmost care and increase the quality of seed and planting material of horticultural crops. Seed and planting material of fruits, vegetables and ornamentals offer excellent scope to increase their export provided they meet the international quality standards and offer at a less competitive price. The NBPGR, new Delhi, and institute like NBRI, Lucknow, should act immediately and introduce exotic materials of fruits and floricultural plants, says Dr Shikhamany, Director, IIHR, Bangalore.
