Squamous-cell carcinomas of the vulva in two cows

anglais. Two Montbeliard cows, offspring from the same mother, were seen during a visit to the same farm. These two animals had nearly identical neoplastic lesions on the vulval lips. One of the animals also had "cancer eye". Several other cows in the herd, including the mother of the two cows in question, were or had been carriers of this type of ocular tumour. Anatomopathological examination revealed a squamous-cell carcinoma. Due to their invasive characteristics and guarded prognosis, surgical ablation is not recommended. Localised treatment and treatment with an immunomodulator containing Mycobacterium chelonae were employed. Tumour development was arrested allowing conservation of the cows until the end of their gestation
Afficher plus [+] Moins [-]italien. Due vacche di razza Montbéliard, nate dalla stessa madre e presenti nello stesso allevamento, sono state sottoposte a visita. I due animali erano colpiti da lesioni tumorali pressoché identiche a livello delle labbra vulvari. Uno di essi presentava anche lesioni tumorali dell'occhio. Anche altre vacche appartenenti alla mandria, tra cui la madre delle due vacche in questione, erano state portatrici di questo tipo di tumore oculare. L'esame anatomopatologico ha rilevato un epitelioma spinocellulare. Il carattere invasivo e la prognosi riservata di queste neoformazioni non ne hanno consentito l'asportazione chirurgica. Sono state effettuate cure locali e un trattamento immunomodulatore a base di Mycobacterium chelonae. Lo sviluppo del tumore è stato arrestato permettendo di risparmiare i due animali fino al termine della gestazione
