Seedling raising method in a short period by in vitro culture method was investigated. 1) The number of average germinated seedlings per 1/2 pod was increased to 12 seedlings by barley liquor medium in vitro culture, compared with Hyponex medium. 2) The number of the average germinated seedlings per 1/2 pod was increased to 8 seedlings by using immature seeds (1.5 months after cross breeding) in vitro culture, compared with using mature seeds (2.5 months after cross breeding). 3) It was possible to plant the seedlings forming tuber and roots after germinating directly without acclimatization, when they were treated under 5 deg C for 2 weeks in a culture container. The growing period was reduced to 2.5 months by direct potting, compared with the control method. 4) The cross seedlings took root well after planting by using tuber over 6mm long in diameter.
