The ether-soluble fractions of acetone extracts of heartwood of 6 elite clones of sugi (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don), grown in two different next-generation experimental forests were analyzed. Oil from a particular clone showed the same component profile, despite being grown in different locations. Among 12 samples of Minamatasho 4, 10 samples showed the same characteristic high content of bisabolanoids (peak Nos. 11b,35, 45c, 50), but 2 had a profile similar to KenYame 3. (-) trans-Cadina-1(6), 4-diene (peak No.7) and (+) cis-cadina-4(15), 5-diene (10) were identified ; the latter seemed to be the enantiomer of nephthene. Leaf oils of the clones were analyzed and compared with the corresponding wood oils. The main diterpene of all clones was kaurene. The leaf oil of KenHigashiusuki 15 had characteristics similar to those of KenKoyu 3, but the wood oils were different, confirming that they were different clones.
