Use of pruned pear-branch as an amendment for composting swine waste

We conducted to study the affects of mix proportion of swine Waste (SW) and pruned pear-branch (PB) as an amendment on the composting process and the components of the compost. The PB used in this experiment was crushed to fibrous pieces in rough by a crusher. The moisture content in SVV and PB were 74% and 18%, respectively. The Three mix proportions were designed in the ratio of SW and PB in volume. The three mix ratio were 1:1, 1:1.5, 1:2.0, respectively. In addition, the composting process with the single CB was studied and compared with that of three mixtures. The mixtures and the single CB ware fermented in test-composting boxes (150L) under an aerobic condition by blowing air from the bottom during 16 weeks and mixed round periodically. During the next 8 weeks, these materials were fermented without aeration. The fermentation temperature of every composts increased rapidly and the maximum temperature reached above 70degC in the short term. The temperature of the single PB decreased to ambient temperature within a week. Although the temperature dropped gradually as the moisture content in the compost decreased, the additional water and mixing round to the composts increased the temperature during 12 weeks. The decomposition rate of dry-matter in the composts mixed SW and PB were higher than that of in the single PB compost. During the composting process, the CN ratio in the composts decreased gradually. Although the CEC value increased linearly during 12 weeks, it was constant after that time. These results indicated that the maturity period of the composting with SW and PB was 12 weeks.
