"The number of forestry workers from the younger generations has been increasing lately, albeit slightly. Because of this, some people believe that the severity of labor problems in forestry has been alleviated. The authors have different view on this issue. With working conditions of forestry workers remaining poor, the authors are greatly concerned about the present and future situation of labor problems in forestry. Taking these conditions into account, the Hokkaido Government launched the _gCountermeasure Project for Forestry Labors of Hokkaido_h in 1993. Being part of the _gCountermeasures for Forests and Mountain Villages_h that were initiated in the same year with the cooperation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Forestry Agency and the National Land Agency, this policy is designed to be implemented, based on the establishment of funds. This report aims to clarify the characteristics and challenges of the aforementioned project. In parallel, we studied the evaluation of the project by forestry business entities by conducting questionnaire surveys on forestry business entities in Hokkaido. The authors also examined the crux of today's labor problems in forestry, taking results of the questionnaire surveys into consideration. While a current matter of the greatest concern among forestry business entities is a decline in forestry work volume, they also have great anxiety about the present and future situation of forestry work. Due to this, they have made a certain valuation of the said project. The future development of this project will attract attention of the people to whom it may concern."
