The examination for tea green leafhopper, Empoasca onukii Matsuda: Whether or not it was tea shoot in favorite line or in resistant line ?

We examined some tea cultivers and lines whether it was favorite line or resistant line for Tea Green Leafhopper, Empoasca Onukii Matsuda. More damaged leaves with discolored veins and/or edges were found in the tea cultivar line 80 G sub1 -50 which was observed frequent occurrence of Empoasca Onukii in 1997. The leaves were rather thinner with lighter color. It was then considered that those made it (80 G sub1 -50 in cultivar line) favor to the tea green leafhopper. Regarding ingredient content ratio, catechins contained in 80 G sub1 -50 were thoroughly less than Yabukita's when comparing them. In the same way, the ECG content ratio was especially lower. However, the caffeine content ratio was significantly higher to the contrary. On the other hands, when comparing the tea shoots thought a resistant line with Yabukita, the catechin content ratio in 80 G sub1 -50 showed no significant difference from Yabukita's, but the EGC content ratio was observed slightly higher than it. In comparison with 80 G sub1 -50, the catechin content ratio in the tea shoots was found totally higher than it (80 G sub1 -50). These made possible that catechins worked somehow on the resistibility of tea green leafhopper. Following is the result of the cultivar test to see to which tea shoots tea green leafhopper moved upon using tea shoots in each of cultivar lines (Yabukita & Sayamakaori), favorite line (80 G sub1 -50) and the tea shoots thought a resistant line from tea field. The tea green leafhopper moved more toward the tea shoots in the tea shoots thought a resistant line, not toward 80 G 1-50. This was absolutely against the observation in the tea field. This seemed to be related to allelopathy.
