This is an integrated management plan of Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, which was developed in a participatory way with wide consultation among the stake holders Arabuko-Sokoke Forest is the largest single block of indigenous coastal forest remaining in East Africa. It is situated in Kenya's Coast Province and transerves Kilifi and Malindi District at a latitude of 3o 20' and longtitude 39o 50'E A review of past studies and available data was carried out. The purpose of the plan is to put in place sustainable forest management and conservation practices. This is achieved by a combination of strategies and actions focusing on the main issues. The strategies focus on forest zonation, ecotourism, environmental education, problem animal management, subsistence use of the forest, biodiversity conservatiion, commercial use of the forest, infrustructure development, human resource development and monitoring and research. The overriding principle for the strategy is sustainability.Arabuko-Sokoke Forest contributes positively to sustainable development, and meets the needs of present and future generations.
