Entrepreneurship plays an enormous role in the up-to-date process of management, leading to an increase in productivity, effectiveness and compatibility in the market. In result, there are occurring positive phenomena in the economy, inter alia, stabilisation, and human capital growth. The system changes under way in Poland have triggered founding initiatives in the area of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). There are dominating small and medium enterprises that constituted 99.8% of all enterprises in 2003, and their share in GDP creating amounted to 48.6%.The SME sector development in Poland is characterised by a great variability in potential growth what may point out to instability of terms and conditions for businesses functioning. A high mortality of firms, particularly in the first year of their activity, is an effect, inter alia, of lack of a sufficient recognition of their closer and more distant environment prior to their market entrance (adoption of the rule that as soon as others have succeeded, I will also win) and lack of a sufficient managerial preparedness for independent business running (lack of knowledge in the area of management, marketing, finance, personnel management, negotiating).
