Salacca clemensiana Becc. is the only naturally occurring endemic species of the genus Salacca Reinwardt (Arecaceae/Palmae) in the Philippines. It is previously found in three provinces on Mindanao Islands. The present discovery of S. clemensiana in the Mt. Malindang Range, Misamis Occidental Province represents a new distribution record. Previous assessment of its conservation status classified it as rare but present study shows that this species is quite common and abundant in the headwater region and along the banks of Layawan River, Mt. Malindang Range. Therefore, the species is nowhere rare nor endangered in this distribution area. Information on its taxonomy, ecology, phenology, population size, reproductive behavior, conservation status, economic importance, and current distribution range are also provided.
