To find out an optimum, sowing date for high grain yield ofmungbean, 5 planting dates (15th April, 15th May, 15th June, 15thJuly and 15th August) on two varieties were tested at MalakandherResearch Farm, NWFP Agricultural University, Peshawar in 2002.Significant differences were observed among various sowing datesfor all the 6 traits. Sowing date of 15th April took more number ofdays to emergence and the crop attained maximum height. Thehighest emergence/m2 was recorded under 15th June. The highestnumber of days to 50% flowering and to physiological maturity wasnoted under sowing date August 15. Significantly the highest meangrain yield (948.37 kg/ha) was found under early planting date of15th April due to more crop height. Mungbean variety NM-92produced the highest mean grain yield (565.85 kg/ha) as against M-1(500.30 kg/ha). Maximum grain yield (979.50 kg/ha) was found undersowing date 15th April in variety M-1 and (917.25 kg/ha) in NM-92 incomparison to other sowing dates. It is concluded that mungbeanshould be planted in the mid of April for better grain yield.
