The study on chemical control of Helicoverpa armigera on chickpea wascarried out in the field and laboratory. In field, two sprays of Arrivo(cypermethrin) 10EC at the rate of 250 ml, Lannate (methomyl) 40SP at the rate of300 g, Tracer (spinosad) 240SC at the rate of 60 and Steward (indoxacarb) 150SCat the rate of 150 ml acre-1, at interval of 15 days, using Randomized CompleteBlock Design with three replications, were applied. Results revealed Tracer wasthe most effective treatment in restricting the pest infestation followed bySteward and Lannate whereas Arrivo was unable to do the same. In thelaboratory bioassay on plants treated with different concentration of theinsecticides also presented that the Tracer (1 ppm) was toxic to 2nd instar larvaeof the pest ah Arrivo (216 ppm) was least effective. The presence of tolerance tocypermethrin in the field indicates a wide spread genetic factor or possibly acommon mechanism of resistance to cypoer tmrjhin. Steward and Tracer alongwith Lannate provide with alternate insecticide to cypermethrin for the control ofH. armigera on chickpea.
