Biological control of Meloidogyne javanica (TREUB) chitwoodi withTrichoderma harzianum rifai on tomato
2001
Khattak, B.
Data on growth parameters, like plant height, fresh and dry shoot weightand fresh and dry root weight were studied. The fungus sufficiently retardedthe pathogenic activity of Meloidogyne javanica. Increase in plant height, fresh and dry shoot weight and nematode suppression were observed whenthe fungus was used at the rate of 40 g/pot or 20 g/pot. Root coating withthe fungus sufficiently reduced number of galls (26.3 galls/plant). However, ithad little effect on stimulating plant height and shoot growth as compared tothe fungal doses on brains. In vitro egg and female infection of nematodesincreased with the increase in time of exposure to the fungus. After four daysof incubation at room temperature the infection of eggs and female nematodesreached 95 and 90%, respectively. The culture filtrate of Trichoderma inhibitedthe egg hatching of nematodes and this inhibition was increased with anincrease in the concentration of CF. The egg hatching was. 20, 35 and 80% at1:1 1:10 and 1:100 concentration of CF respectively.
