The effect of nitrogen fertilization (doses and dates) on winter wheat performance was studied in the period from 1986-89. Studies included the assessment of grain protein content, grain protein yield, and grain yield energy. Accumulation of nitrogen in grain and straw was determined based on the content of nitrogen in grain and straw. The effectivenes of nitrogen fertilization was defined with agronomical efficiency, physiological efficiency and apparent recovery fraction (percent). Best production results were observed for fertilization at: 80 kg N/ha spring reneval of growth and 40 kg N/ha on the beginning of shooting in majority of cultivars. Nitrogen fertilization at 80 kg N/ha contributed to the highest economic profit. The N-fertilizer rate of 80 kg/ha for Weneda and Panda cultivars was economically most effective, while 120 kg/ha was most effective for Begra and Gama cultivars
