Weed biomass as affected by vegetable species and cultivation methods
Dobrzanski, A. | Anyszka, Z. | Palczynski, J.(Instytut Warzywnictwa, Skierniewice (Poland). Pracownia Herbologii)
The relationship between 18 vegetable crops and weed biomass development are reviewed. The number of observations and dates of weed biomass evaluation were dependent on years, vegetable species and cultivation methods. Average biomass varied from 2.1 t/ha (broccoli-mean for 6 experiments) to 18.8 t/ha (carrots-mean for 14 years). Weed biomass was not constant, e.g. in green peas averaged from 0.4-7.6 t/ha (mean 3.9)in tomatoes 5.2-23.7 t/ha (mean 12.0), in cucumbers 3.1-24.8 t/ha - mean 6.5 and was probably dependent on weather and growing conditions
