Natural nesting sites and comb structure of the dwarf honeybee apis florea fab. in Khartoum State, Sudan

Ninety-one colonies of Apis florea Fab. were observed during the course of this study which lasted for 17 months (Jan. 1996-May, 1997). Nests were found constructed on trees, shrubs and annual crops and rarely on inside walls of open buildings. Positions of nests above ground level were at heights ranging from 0.0 to 8.0 m. Combs were constructed in different sizes, in north to south and east to west directions. Honey and brood areas were measured, and combs and comb-cells dimensions were also recorded
