14 stations of the sediment qualities and macrobenthos in Songkhla lake were monthly collected from March 1992 to November 1995. The results showed the spatial distribution of sediment quality were obviously changed, especially total ammonia and hydrogensulfide. High total ammonia and hydrogensulfide were found at the mouth of Ranod canal, the center of The le Laoung, the mounth of Pawong canal and the center of the Outer lake. The highest of concentration total ammonia was found at the mouth of Ranod canal (22.1 +- 3.77 mg-N/kg) and the highest concentration of hydrogensulfide was found at Ban Hua Khao (43.9 +- 5.94 mg-S/kg). Five phyla of macrobenthos (Annelida, Arthopoda Nemertea, Echinodermata and Mollusca) were recored. The predominant groups were Tanaidacea, Amphipoda and Nephtyidae, respectively. The Shannon-Wiener's diversity index was found highest at the mouth of Songkhla lake. The community structure of macrobenthos in Songkhla lake were influenced by pH, hydrogensulfide and organic matter content, respectively.
