Objective of this work is to study the characteristic of the extraction of the gamma-Linolinic Acid (GLA) from Spirulina using supercritical Carbondioxide. The influence of the temperature, pressure, and percent moisture content of Spirulina on the extraction was investigated. The temperatures were varied in the range of 35 to 80 deg C, while the pressures were varied in the range of 10,000 to 38,000 kPa respectively. The experimental results showed that at the temperature of 70 deg C and the pressure of 28,000 kPa, the yield of GLA was 0.09592 wt percent which was higher than that of chemical extraction method (0.06078 wt percent). The moisture contents in the Spirulina also affected the yield. At the moisture content of 65.03 percent, the yield turned out to be 0.2294 wt percent.
