Study of basic problems of poultry raising in the village

Basic problems of poultry raising in the village of Ban Na Dok Mai, Tambol Nong Yaplonk, Amphur Wang-Sapung, Loei province was studied by questionairs. The study included the farmers of 362 households. the age of majority respondents were 45 years old, number of member in household was 5 / household, poultry raising labor was 1 / household and the number of poultry was 22 / household. The majority of respondents prefer to raise native chicken about 94.9 percent for longer than 12 years. The objectives of poultry raising were for sell and consume. Most of the farmers had their own pens. They fed the birds with paddy rice and polished rice. The birds drank the water from fresh water which provided by the owners, water on the ground and water from a brook in the village. The important problem of poultry raising was diseases outbreak and the highest mortality was 62.45 percent in April. About 39.2 percent of the respondents treated the sick birds with antibiotics and herbs and only 8.2 percent of them called the veterinarians. When the birds died, they prefer to bury, consume and throw away. About 80.8 percent of the respondents never use vaccine and few of them dewormed and eradicated the ectoparasite for the birds.
