Jirawat Sanitchon | Prasit Jaisil
Study on correlation between 11 characteristics in KKU sesame population no.2 was conducted in September 1989 at Khon Kaen University. The objective of this study was to estimate correlation coefficient between some characteristics which relate to seed size and seed yield. The result was found that correlation between seed size and seed yield was low (r=0.166**). Intermediate positive correlation between seed size and days to maturity was found in this study (r=0.493**). High positive correlation between seed yield per plant and number of capsules per plant was observed (r=0.719**). Thus days to maturity was the selection criteria for seed size, number of capaules per plant was the selection criteria for seed yield. The correlation coefficient of these characteristics has been shown as an effective criteria for indirect selection in sesame breeding program.
