A research for the levels of aflatoxin M1 contents of drinking milk samples in Istanbul

In this study, totally 67 drinking milk samples sold in Istanbul were investigated for the levels of aflatoxin M1 by ELISA technique. AFM1 levels were between 10-25 ppt in 16 samples, 25-50 ppt in 29 samples, 51-75 ppt in 9 samples and more than 75 ppt in 7 samples. 16 milk samples were contaminated at levels above the legal limit for AFM1. 6 milk samples had not AFM1 at detectable level. An evident difference for AFM1 content was not found between pasteurised milk and UHT milk samples. The results indicated that AFM1 contents of the drink milk may be high level for human health
