Liquid ammonia, anhydrous ammonia (ammonia gas) and urea solution containing urease were tested to extend safety storing period of high moisture content maize and to prevent them from fungal attack, especially from Aspergillus flavus and aflatoxin. It was recognized that ammonia treatment has inhibiting effects to growth of A. flavus and aflatoxin contamination in early stages of the storing of maize, but the glossy golden color of grain disappeared, turned to dark color, and unusual smell was released even in low ammonia concentration.
