Improvement and development of moisture meter

For simple and quick determination of moisture content during harvest or storage, ear maize moisture meter was planned to be developed. Moisture content varies according to the parts in ear. But the moisture content of middle part of ear can represent whole moisture content of ear maize, if calibrated. To reduce developmental cost, resistance moisture meter "CD-2L" was selected to be modified. Two types of electrodes, knife blade and plier, were tested and plier type with screw electrodes was selected. In 1989, it showed a low regression between determined values and actual moisture content. In 1990, different size of electrodes were tested and pressing direction was adjusted to get better correspondence to moisture content of ear maize. For completion of moisture meter, electrodes is to be modified more convenient in field use.
