Hard-seededness is a condition in some seeds where the seed coat is impermeable to water. Scarification refers to any procedure that modifies the seed coat to permit the entry of water and exchange of gas, and to allow growth space for the developing seed embryo. In order to stimulate germination, it is necessary to identify and apply a "suitable dormancy breakage " procedures. Seed scarification is an important procedure for conditioning some seed prior to germination. Scarification ensures faster germination and uniformity of germination in the nursery allowing better planning. The scarification method was studied to determine the effect of germination of Acacia xanthophloea, Albizia adiantiphloea and Albia lebbeck at the Mozambican National Tree Seed Centre.
