Modification action of osmotic metabolites (free proline, cholin, glycinbetain) accumulation induced by plant growth regulators (quartazine, amistime C, epibrassinolide) in different barley genotypes (Roland and Zazerskij 85 varieties) was studied in normal conditions and in dryperiod. Quartazine, amistime C, epibrassinolide modified the adaptive balance of anti-stress metabolite concentrations of free praline, cholin and glycinbetain. It was shown that plant growth regulators depending on the selectivity action were able to lower the level of osmotic metabolites accumulation by sensitive varieties and increase it in the less sensitive ones promoting their better adaptation to water stress and after-stress period. By means of isoplasmic lines combining nucleus and cytoplasm genomes of initial varieties it was revealed that modifications caused by plant growth regulators are controlled both by nucleus and cytoplasm genomes. Plant growth regulators exhibit a tendency to increase the role of barley cytoplasm for drought resistance depending on osmotic substance, plant genotype and preparation nature
