Between 2002 and 2004, Agroscope FAL Reckenholz and RAC Changins tested four varieties of tall oat-grass (Arrhenatherum elatius L) and four varieties of golden oat-grass (Trisetum flavescens L.) at five and seven experimental sites respectively. The varieties were compared for yield, juvenile development, vigour, disease resistance, winter hardiness and competitive ability. With golden oat-grass the adaptation to higher altitudes was also accounted for. An index value was calculated from the data, allowing for a direct comparison of the tested varieties. According to the results, the new variety of tall oat-grass Arone is recommended. With golden oat-grass, Gunter will be newly added to the «List of Recommended Varieties of Forage Plants».
