A new winter wheat cultivar Ljiljana was realised by the Commission of Varietal Approval in 2000. Ljiljana is high yielding cultivar with the genetic yield potential over 11 t/ha. Ljiljana is an early cultivar with good resistance to winterkilling, good resistance to lodging, very good resistance to leaf rust, good resistance to stem rust and powdery mildew. A distictive feature of the variety is a long duration of leaf green area and a prolonged period of photosynthetic activity. A distinguished feature of the variety is very good resistance to high air temperature and air drought at the stage of grain filling. As it has a narrow and a relatively short leaf, it may be considered as fairly economic regarding its requirements for nutrients and water. The absolute mass of 1000 grains is about 35 g of d.m., volumic mass 82.5 kg/hl. The milling and baking quality are excellent. The content of dry gluten is about 10%. On the whole, Ljiljana has good agronomic and technological properties compared with the existing winter wheat cultivars.
