Analysis of yield component stability in spring garlic (Allium sativum L.)

Thirty genotypes of spring garlic (eight populations, two varieties, and 22 lines) were grown during 1999, 2000 and 2001. Analyzed in the study were the yield components: buld mass, clove mass and number, bulb height and width, bulb shape, and dry matter yield per bulb and the main indicators of quality, dry matter content and number of outer leaves on the bulb. Genotype variability for the above traits was expressed through variation coefficients for genotype and year. The largest amount of variation in the genotypes was found for clove mass, dry matter yield, bulb mass, clove number and number of outer leaves, and bulb height and width . In all three study years, the genotypes varied the least for dry matter content and bulb shape. Changes in the rank of genotype means were presented graphically, allowing us to assess genotype/year interaction. Cluster analysis was used to evaluate genotype divergence and degree of response similarity for the traits concerned over the three study years. Stablity analysis was carried out using the AMMI.
