The decrease in cypermethrin efficacy to control Colorado potato beetle (CPB) is explained by the pest capacity to quickly acquire resistance. Improvement could not be achieved either by raising the dose or increasing the number of treatments. Use of piperonyl butoxide (PB) as a synergist and antioxidative compound extended the field life of cypermethrin. Evidence of PB being capable of thyroid tumor induction emphasized the need for its replacement in the formulation. Among natural antioxidants, Maclura aurantiaca ethanol extract has shown promising in increasing the toxicity and antifeeding effect of cypermethrin on Colorado potato beetle and decreasing potato leaf damage.
