Functions of agriculture and rural development

Agriculture has always had vital functions in the economy and society. As the oldest economic branch, out of which other branches of economy have split and become independent, agriculture has always been a food producer and in that way it has performed its basic function. Apart from this, agriculture has performed its other functions. So, it is a producer of raw materials used in industry, it is in the phase of industrialization the source of labour and the market for the development of the industry. Nowadays, the function of agriculture is as important for the protection and advancement of the human environment as for the maintenance of development. All the mentioned functions have big importance for the balanced rural development. The main theme of this paper is exactly to show the conditionality and mutual dependence between the functions of agriculture and the rural development.
