New powdery mildew (Oidium neolycopersici) on tomato [in greenhouses]

During the summer and autumn of 2005, for the first time in Serbia, powdery mildew on the tomato was registered in some greenhouses. The pathogens of the powdery mildew is Oidium neolycopersici. So far this species is also registered in New Zealand, Australia, California and some European countries. Powdery mildew has shown itself to be very agresive in some focies drying of the leaves has occurred. On tomato, at the end of the summer and during autumn, powdery mildew has appeared on the pepper Leveilula taurica which caused leaf fall. The characteristics of these two species of powdery mildew on tomatoes and peppers have been documented.
