Carcass and meat quality of Leccese breed lambs suckling from ewes fed diets containing vegetable by-pass protein

[In order to evaluate the effect of diets containing by-pass plant proteins on meat and carcass of suckling lambs, Leccese breed ewes received feed in which 50% and 100% of soybean respectively was substituted with by-pass protein, compared with control group which received the normal feed. The trial period started 30 days before lambing and included the first 45 days of lactation. Both performances of living animals and the evaluation of cold carcass weight, cold dressing percentage and dissection in cuts of carcasses were affected positively by this feeding treatment. Lightness L* index, on the contrary, was affected negatively, with darker meat in treated groups (about 45 vs 53). Completely protected plant products, besides assuring an efficient protein supply, can contribute to improve proteinogenesis in suckling lambs.]

Per valutare l´influenza di diete contenenti proteina vegetale by-pass sulle carcasse e sulle carni di agnelli da latte, sono state alimentate pecore di razza Leccese con mangimi che sostituivano al 50% e al 100% la soia del mangime testimone. Il prodotto da testare è stato somministrato per un periodo sperimentale precedente al parto e per i 45 giorni di allattamento degli agnelli. Sia le performance in vita, sia la valutazione relativa al peso carcassa a freddo, resa netta a freddo e dissezione in tagli delle carcasse hanno mostrato di risentire positivamente di questo trattamento alimentare. La luminosità L* delle carni ne ha invece risentito negativamente, presentando carni più scure nei gruppi trattati (circa 45 vs 53). In conclusione, si può affermare che prodotti completamente vegetali e protetti, oltre a garantire un efficiente apporto proteico, possono contribuire a migliorare i processi di proteinogenesi in agnelli lattanti
