Our kinetic analysis of the mineralization characteristics of soil nitrogen in Andosol tea gardens gave the following results: 1) The mineralized soil nitrogen in the Andosol tea garden in the space between hedges was more abundant than that under canopy, and that in the surface layer was more abundant than that in the lower layer. 2) When cattle feces compost was used, the mineralization rate decreased, though the N-mineralization potential increased in comparison with not using soil. 3) The monthly amount of mineralized soil nitrogen reached maximum in July and August, and 40-50% of the mineralized soil nitrogen for the year became inorganic during the summer, from June to August. 4) The annual amount of mineralized soil nitrogen was estimated to be 20-25kg/10a, with a distribution of 10-15kg/10a at depths of 0-40 cm in the space between hedges and approximately 10kg/10a at depths of 0-10 cm under the canopy of the distributed region of the root system in the Andosol tea garden. 5) We believe that there is a high correlation between the total nitrogen content in the soil and the annual amount of mineralized soil nitrogen, and that this correlation can be used to estimate the total nitrogen content.
