Effects of night temperatures of previous fall and winter on growth and flowering of Bardendrum orchid

We tried to see the effects of night temperature (2 deg C, 5 deg C and 15 deg C ) in the fall and winter on the growth and flowering of mericloned Barkeria scandens x Bardendrum 'Terusan' at Yatsugadake Experimental Farm of Yamanashi Agricultural Research Center (Takane, Hokuto, 955m above sea level). 1) A11 the night temperatures tried were high enough for the plants to survive. All the plants flowered in mid-December, which was about one year after they were transplanted out of the flasks. 2) Plants under 15 deg C night temperature flowered earlier than the others. This also had the length of longer flower stalks and inflorescences than the others. Their number of florets per inflorescence was more than that of those in the lower night temperatures. 3) The number of lateral branches per plant was highest in the plants under night temperature of 2 deg C.
