Test of hypotheses on factors influencing households' waste generations: A case of Chiba prefecture [Japan]
2005
Tsuda, O.(Chiba Univ. (Japan)) | Ohe, Y.
This paper analyses the different factors that influenced households' waste disposal behaviour, namely: (1) family size (number of person/household); (2) per capita income (yen/person): and, (3) household's geographical location, whether they are living in urban or rural areas. The data used in the analysis were taken from 79 municipalities of Chiba Prefecture in 2001. As expected, the results of our regression analysis show that the bigger the household size the lower the daily per capita household waste disposal (gram/day-person). However, our regression analyses do not support our two hypotheses that: (1) the higher the Per Capital Income, the higher the daily per capita household waste disposal; and, (2) those living in the urban areas have higher daily per capita household waste disposal.
