Modern technology in the dairy cattle farm in Estonia

The description of large cowsheds built in Estonia in recent years is given. The farms are characterized by all-the-year-round keeping of cows in cowsheds in un-insulated light buildings; ad libitum feeding with total mixed rotation, milking in milking centres (preferably in automatic parallel milking parlous), keeping animals without bedding, liquid manure system; automatic herd management system. The data of farms' current costs and their structure formation are presented: cowsheds make 32-50%, milking centres 18-29% and manure handling (disposal) 13-29% of total costs.
