The results of nation-wide survey during early nineties indicated apredominant position of bio-mass fuel for the household sector in Pakistan. Itconstitutes 94% of rural household energy-supply in the country, consumed inform of firewood, dung and crop residues. Pakistan wood standing stock isestimated at 211 million tons, with an annual sustainable production of 20 milliontons. The firewood market has been rather stable as depicted by balance betweensupply and demand, with sporadic problems relating to distribution. The use ofbio- mass fuel is fraught with various degrees of inefficiencies andineffectiveness, the chief sources being combustion devices, utensils andunprocessed bio-mass. Resultantly there are widespread pollution and health-hazards in the domestic environment of the rural households of Pakistan. Theaffectee in most cases is the adult young female, thus causing other family socialailments.
