Gender participation in food security activities in district Attock [Pakistan]

The aim of present study was to investigate the involvement of rural womenin food security activities. For this purpose, 120 respondents from district Attockalready engaged in food security activities were randomly selected. Data werecollected through a pre-tested interview schedule and then analyzed throughSPSS. The study results indicated that rural women were involved in foodproduction activities such as wheat and vegetable production on the family farms.They were also actively involved in food storage and security related activitiessuch as cleaning of wheat for milling, cleaning of storerooms etc. But, their foodintake in terms of calories was much less than the recommended dose. Thisresearch study highlighted the need to further explore their access to non-formaleducational resources concerning agriculture and home economics with specialreference to food production, protection and security.
