The study on "Strategies for regeneration of public parks in Peshawar" wascarried out by surveying 83.5% respondents by visiting four different parks inPeshawar during 2002-03. Two park types such as Old and New were selectedfor the study. It was found that regular visit to the parks is not a commonpractice due to economic, insufficient time and distance from home to nearbyparks. Majority of the respondents were actively involved in various activitiesbut they were primarily passive participant (spend leisure time by walking, warding children, etc.). The presence of Afghan refugees and subsequentdamages to parks seemed serious concern to the visitors. Awareness about parkvisiting may also be lacking in illiterate native people but Afghan refugees arebelieved to be more damaging. A paid entry (have to buy a ticket to enter apark) is preferred by rather than having unwanted people in the park. About55.5% respondents were not satisfied with the present management of the park.Children playing areas and facilities such as provision of more greenery andclean areas are demanded by majority of the visitors. Where such facilities areavailable, people are not satisfied with the management condition of the parks.
