Effect of sulphur, phosphorus and molybdenum application on the quality ofsoybean grain

The qualitative effect of sulphur, phosphorus and molybdenum applicationon soybean grains was studied at Agricultural Research Institute, Tarnab,Peshawar. Sulphur was applied at 0, 40, 80 and 120 mg kg-1, phosphorus 0, 40and 80 mg kg-1 and molybdenum 0 and 1 mg kg-1. Increasing level of (sulphurup to 120 mg kg-1, increased crude protein, cystine, cystein and methiorinecontents of grain. However, oil percentage significantly increased only with 40mg kg-1 sulphur and with higher levels of sulphur a decreasing trend wasobserved. The reducing, non-reducing and total sugar increased with 40 and 80mg kg-1 sulphur and thereafter decreased. Application of 40 mg kg-1 phosphatesignificantly increased reducing sugar, total sugar and methionine content ofseed whereas molybdate application decreased cystine and cysteine. The sulphurconcentration in leaves gave positive significant correlation with the percentageof crude protein, oil, total sugar and sulphur containing amino acids. Whereas,molybdenum concentration of leaves was found negatively correlated withcystine and methionine.
