The aim of the paper was to investigate heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn) contents in soil, and acidity of soils in the surroundings of industrial emitters. The upper layer of soil (0-15 cm) was sampled in Upper Silesia industrial region and from relatively non-contaminated areas (Zywiecki Landscape Park, Bialowieza). The heavy metals contents were measured by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. The highest concentration of heavy metals (particularly: Cd, Pb and Zn) was found in the soils from Bukowno and Katowice. The highest content of iron was found in the soils from Zywiecki Landscape Park
