Total content and forms of heavy metals and their distribution in soil profiles were analysed in soils developed from granite of Karkonosze Mountains. Pb, Cu, Ni, Cd are strongly accumulated in the ectohumus horizons. High concentration of lead and its profile distribution suggest the anthropogenic origin of this elements. The strong acid reaction and high precipitation caused their translocation through the profile, in result of the podzolization process. The level of heavy metals content in soils do not confirm the common opinion on their significant influence of the ecosystems degradation
