Yield of Colubrina asiatica (L.) Brongn. in various spacing

Plant spacing and yield were studied so as to develop growing Kanchong and to increase number of plant species in farming system. The study was carried out from February 1999 to February 2000 at Rajamangala Institute of Technology Phitsanuloke Campus. Randomized Complete Block Design was used with 5 treatments of plant spacing: 0.50*0.50, 0.50*0.75, 0.75*0.75, 0.75*1.00 and 1.00*1.00 meter. The results showed that Kanchong could be harvested in 3 months after planting. Within 3-5 months, the plant spacing of 0.50*0.50 m yielded the highest level at 96.0, 250.7 and 130.8 kg/rai, respectively. Wider plant spacing produced lower yield as results in the plant spacing of 0.50*0.75 m produced 90.7, 208.0 and 106.7 kg/rai. The plant spacing of 0.75*0.75 m produced 58.7, 130.8 and 82.8 kg/rai. The plant spacing of 0.75*1.00 m produced 45.4, 125.4 and 77.4 kg/rai. The plant spacing of 1.00*1.00 m yielded the lowest level 42.7, 90.7 and 80.0 kg/rai. In sixth month yields in all treatments had no significant difference at p LT .01. The yields were 120.1, 106.7, 112.0, 90.7 and 98.8 kg/rai respectively. However, the plant spacing of 0.50*0.50 m showed a trend to yield the highest level in the first year. Further study should be focused on pruning in order to maintain the continuous yield at all time.
