Study on reusing rubber sawdust for oyster mushroom production

Objective of the study was to determine the effect of reusing rubber sawdust in culture media on growth of mycelium and mass weight of oyster mushroom. The trial was conducted at Sakon Nakhon Agricultural Research and Training center during March to September 2000. Different levels of rubber sawdust including 0, 45, 50, 75 and 100 percent were added into culture media in completely randomized design. There were 4 replications for each treatment. Each replication consisted of 10 culture media as subsampling units. The result showed that growth of mycelium in each treatment was statistical difference (P GT 0.05) in size when incubated in a room temperature for 7 days. The sizes of mycelium were 3.96, 4.66, 4.60, 4.72 and 4.34 centimeters long for the culture media consisted 0, 45, 50, 75 and 100 percent of reusing rubber sawdust respectively. However, there was no significant difference (P GT 0.05) in sizes of mycelium in different culture media when incubated under the room temperature for 18 days. There was highly significant difference in average mass weight (P LT 0.01) of oyster mushroom in different levels of rubber sawdust as culture materials after incubated in room temperature for 25 days. The oyster mushroom production was 162.0, 192.0, 208.0, 211.75 and 216.50 grams/culture medium that consisted of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent used rubber sawdust respectively.
